Kaboom!!!

Grandaddy brought by a cool old dynamite box he found in his attic recently.  It's quite old (from the '30s) and originally came from Ryan's Grandaddy. After a long day of changing hundreds (I swear I'm not exaggerating) explosive diapers, I felt like Nathan was "highly explosive."  Thus, a photo opportunity was born.....

Believe me, both of these boys are dangerous!

Jack insisted on getting in the box himself.  It was equally fitting that he contain himself in a box marked "high explosives" but that's a story for another time...

9/23 Update

Nathan is 1 1/2 weeks old and doing great!  While we aren't getting all that much sleep (2 hour increments at night) we are still happy and having fun with our new addition.  Here are some pics from the last week.

Some "brother time" on the floor.

I feel like they are ganging up on me already!

 Copying Daddy's faces.

My good friend Alyssa came by to visit and meet Nathan.

Jack loved her cookies! Check out those chipmunk cheeks full.

Nathan all dressed up for Susie Phillips' birthday party.

Awake

Now that Nathan is a few days old, he is staying awake a little longer during the day.  I was able to get some awake shots this morning to prove he actually does have eyes!

The local Witch Doctor cast a shrunken-head spell on him!

And just in case you are wondering, big brother Jack is doing really well coping with the new addition.  There have only been brief moments of jealousy that so far have been easily solved with a hug.

It also helps that Grammy sent Jack some "big brother cupcakes."

Check out these awesome monsters - of course Jack loved them!

"Ummmmm!!!"

Pure, Unabashed Bribery

After much research and talking with other parents, it was agreed that the best way to get Jack on board with the overall idea of having a little brother was to have Nathan "get" Jack the best present ever. We're not ashamed... it worked perfectly! And now he LOVES Baby Nathan!

A "nice" John Deere tractor!

A John Deere loader-bucket pedal compact-tractor with working bucket and a functional roll-bar! Oh yeah!

Wow- that didn't take very long...

How we really sold Jack on this was that Nathan had bought Jack a tractor just like Granddaddy's. Below is the real deal:

...But for some reason he kept wanting it on its side. He kept insisting, "Just like Granddaddy's!" Here's the final push that got it all the way over.

Success!

Oh... that's why he wanted it on its side.
(This all may have something to do with the fact that this picture is his Grammy's screensaver on her computer and he sees it all the time.)

Coming Home

Nathan and Amy finally got approved to leave the hospital early Thursday morning... and then about six hours later when the paperwork was finished, we actually got to leave!
This is what we were surprised with when we got home!
Many thanks to the Phillips family for helping us announce the happy news to our neighborhood!

Jack is really starting to warm up to the idea of Nathan living here ("Wait- you actually brought it home?") and was finally interested in holding him!

Brothers

Jack came to the hospital with his Grammy and Grandaddy to meet his baby brother tonight. Our expectations were set pretty low as we knew he wasn't all that excited about a baby, but it actually turned out to be a pretty good experience.

Nathan had his eyes open and was excited to see his big brother.

Jack was way more excited about "fixing" Mommy's bed by making it go up and down with all the switches and buttons.

He did stop (momentarily) to give baby brother a kiss.

 "Wow, his head is soft!"

Grammy meeting Nathan for the first time.

Jack was very concerned about why baby Nathan was "so sad."

...so he gave him another kiss.

Grandaddy meeting Nathan.

Going for another ride!

Nathan Michael McGuire

Nathan was born on 9/13/2011 at 9:08pm weighing 7lbs. 1oz. and 20in. long.

Waiting for the induction juice to kick in. (Notice she's still smiling!)

 Right after he was born.

Imagine our surprise when he was a whole pound less than Jack!

He was not quite sure about all this "being born" nonsense.

 "Hey Mom!"

 "What planet am I on?"

 Ryan, Amy and Nathan.

 Checking out his newest boy.

 Proud Daddy and Nathan.

Another amazing delivery with Dr. Thomas!

Nathan on his first day here. It's amazing how much Nathan looks like Jack when he was first born!
