Playing with Gramps and Auntie TC

Gramps, Gramma Jean and Auntie TC are down for the week to help Jack celebrate turning 2.  Jack always has a great time!

This year Jack figured out how to kick Auntie TC out of her chair and drive it himself!

Jack's New Bed

Jack LOVES Valvoline!

For his birthday Ryan and I got Jack a big boy bed. In reality the bed is really for Ryan and I because we both always wanted a car bed:)

Tippy Tractor

In the past, we've had to have conversations about Jack's tractors being "age appropriate" because he didn't know how to properly play with them. Little did we know we would have to have the same conversation with Graddaddy...

Nobody got hurt and even the tractor ended up unscathed (much to Jack's relief!).

Update for new baby (cont)

I completely forgot to mention that so far everything looks good with the baby. They obviously send us through these additional screens to watch and check for spina bifida. It is too early to rule anything out yet but so far the signs are good. They measure the back of the baby's spine thickness and we want to see under 3. We were at 1.8 so that was definitely positive. One more blood test at the end of the month and on 4/20 we use the lab results plus the second ultrasound we will do that day to attempt to rule it out for sure.

Happy Saint Patrick's Day (Spoiler Alert)

We had our first big 3D Ultrasound today with a specialist to see how things are going with the baby.  I was estimated to be at 12 weeks but my doctor felt the baby was a little bigger than that - probably closer to 13 weeks.  We have been waiting for this ultrasound to verify and our tech confirmed 13 weeks and 4 days so my due date has been moved up to September 17th.

Of even more exciting news - she was EASILY able to determine the sex of the baby.  (Spoiler alert below...)

That's right - we are having another boy!  Jack is going to have a little brother... and I am going to be the only woman in the house!!!  Don't feel too bad for me though - I get to watch two little boys become friends and play trucks and dinosaurs and wrestle and that fun boy stuff.  So there goes my dreams of little frilly tutu skirts and a pink nursery but oh well.  I hear orange is the new pink anyway:) Now if only we could come up with a name.

Bedroom Re-do Fun

These are just some shots of Jack during our recent master bedroom painting.

Jack loves tape.  We don't know why, but he LOVES tape.

Jack decided that he wanted to have a mustache like Uncle Chris - what do you think?

 His serious face.

He insisted on helping paint which included his feet and hands!

 Look at his dedication.

My How Things Have Changed!

In honor of the new baby on the way, I thought I would remind everyone of how different things were only two short years ago. In case you missed it, below is one of the earliest things ever put on this blog. The first posting was Amy's announcement that she was pregnant. The second was when I felt compelled to correct the record with a follow-up post as I had noticed some flaws in the details of her story. Needless to say, the entire experience of receiving news of this second baby went a little smoother than this!

How It Really Happened (By the Father):

It was a calm September evening. I had just retired from a long, tough day of work and had finally found a comfortable position on the living room couch.

Suddenly, from the back of the house came a thunderous roar that shook the foundation. That was immediately followed by approaching footsteps that made little ripples in my drink resting on the coffee table... very "Jurassic Park" style if you ask me.

The dogs, sensing the danger, were in the corner whining. I told myself, "Damn it, Ryan, you must have forgotten to take out the garbage again! Idiot!" I was already on final-written-warning with my dear wife and I knew this had to be it: Game Over.

Rounding the corner came my beautiful bride, although something was slightly different about her this night. Maybe it was the four-inch-diameter hot pink curlers in her hair. Perhaps it was the tears welling up in her eyes. Maybe it was her frigid stare looking deep into my soul.

My first instinct, of course, was to try and acknowledge her new haircut (or whatever) so I wouldn't get in trouble for failing to notice. I almost said, "I like your new eyebrow wax," but something about the look I was receiving told me this was not the time for desperate guessing. Whatever she was upset about, I knew that I had done it and I knew I was going to get it. Bad. I was scared.

With a fast, stabbing motion she thrust out her arm holding a long, white object roughly the shape of a flattened toothbrush. I flinched, but luckily the stab came up short, just a few inches from my face.

(Low, loud, scary voice:) "Look what you did to me!!!"

At this point, I couldn't see what she was holding because the living room lights had been dimmed. I knew I was going to die this night, but I was confused- I figured I would at least know my crime before the execution.

Trying to steady my quivering voice so she wouldn't smell my fear, I whispered, "I love you, honey. I sure appreciate everything you do for me. You look really hot in those curlers. I can't see what you are holding there. Would you please turn up the lights?" (Time for wild guesses after all... At this point, what did I have to lose?) "Have you lost weight?"

A deafening screech like a banshee poured forth from the dark depths of her lungs and she marched over to the light switch and violently slammed it on.

Then I was able to see what the fuss was all about: two pink lines.

And we lived happily ever after.

THE END

Big News

So the big news is Baby #2 is on its way! Due date is September 27 but they are considering bumping that up a week to the 21st.

The most important thing about the ultrasound picture below is that you only see 1 baby. Some of us were having freaky psychic episodes and I was becoming convinced there would be 2 in there. This was not helped when my Aunt Debbie agreed with me on the twins premonition thinking. I'm happy to report that I will not be giving up my day job to become a fortune teller!

To The Park

The weather was pretty nice and Amy had the day off for Presidents' Day, so we headed for the park! We even had ice cream after we were done playing- what a day!

"You know, the top of the slide is actually a lot higher than it looks from the bottom of the slide..."

"Don't push me- I want this decision to be on my own terms."

"That slide was INCREDIBLE! Again! Again!

 "Cheese!"

The following pictures require no caption. Pure happiness!

"Play! Car!"

"Play! Car!" That's what Jack says when he wants to blow a half-hour pretending to go on a road trip.

 "Safety first!"

"Show me again how to double-clutch it, Dad."

"Ooooooo- so that's where the key goes!"

"And I have the keys!!! Ha ha ha!"
